One of the exclusive Alex Walker Collection of camps, Serian - The Original is both authentic, unassuming yet delightfully comfortable and accommodating. Located in the exclusive private Mara North Conservancy, the camp is the perfect home base for safaris in the conservancy and day trips into Masai Mara National Reserve. This safari camp is known for its excellent service and warm welcoming staff. Each tent is assigned a private driver and a private safari vehicle for the length of your stay, allowing you to create your own tailor-made safari adventure. One of the most enjoyable benefits of staying at a camp within the conservancy is the lack of day trippers you would encounter in the National Reserve. There are also far fewer camps and guests in the conservancy, making for a more private, intimate and exclusive safari experience.
In traditional safari-camp style, Serian - The Original's communal area features a thatched main building with open-air dining area and cosy lounge filled with comfortable cream-coloured sofas, dark wood furniture and a romantic wood-burning fire. Since the camp can only accompany up to twelve people at a time, there’s always an atmosphere of intimacy and tranquillity. The camp offers tantalizing cuisine made up of fresh vegetables, salads and fresh fruit grown in the camp’s own garden. The owner keeps beehives in the vegetable garden to keep hungry elephants at bay. The camp's chefs prepare lovely breakfasts with dishes such as homemade toasted muesli and delicious mango slices. Lunches can be made up of tasty fish cakes or Thai vegetable cakes with a side of colourful fresh green salads and homemade freshly baked bread with edible flowers. At the end of the day the camp serves elegant three-course meals by fireside.
The camp has six large, marquee-style spacious tents with bathrooms complete with huge stone baths, twin sinks, flushing toilets and powerful showers that overlook the dense green forested Mara River valley below. Outfitted with comfortable four-poster beds, wrought iron lampstands, Persian rugs, dark wood furniture and distressed white wood shelving, the camp's tents are unfussy and decorated in soothing neutral tones. The tent's wooden front terraces are scattered with daybeds and floor cushions and overlook a river filled with hippos. Just a short walk away from the main lies 'The Nest', a treehouse that can be booked for an overnight stay or an afternoon picnic in the treetops. Serian - The Original also has a larger family tent with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an adjoining deck.
Activities at Serian - The Original
Serian - The Original offers guests a wide range of interesting activities. One of the most unforgettable safari experiences is a game drive in an open-top safari vehicle led by a personal guide and spotter. Each tent receives their own vehicle, guide and spotter which means you can spend as much time as you want getting that perfect snapshot. The camp's guides and spotters are the best in what they do. They know just the right spots to visit and are extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area. One of the benefits of staying at the conservancy is the ability to go out on bush walks. The camp offers adventurous morning walking safaris, the perfect way to leave the beaten tracks. You'll get a closer look at even the smallest details surrounding you, but you'll also have the opportunity to spot buffalo, hippo, elephant and other wildlife. Another option only available to guests staying at the conservancy is fly-camping. Fly-camping involves spending your days walking through the bush and spending the night in a lightweight tent. Serian also offers adventurous nightly game drives and hot air balloon safaris (surcharge applies).
Tripadvisor comments Serian - The Original
Serian - the Original is located overlooking the Mara River - great location. Each day hippos were seen relaxing on the river bank and in the water. ... Highly recommend as a place to stay if visiting the Mara Conservancy.

For us the best thing about this lodge was having your own vehicle and guide/driver. Nothing could be more exclusive for us (and other wildlife loving people) than that!
