Offbeat Mara is a rustic camp that takes much inspiration from the traditional African safari. Without fences or borders, Offbeat Mara is in the wilderness's heart, where guests feel at one with the surrounding landscape. Nestled in the bush and blending in with the natural surroundings, Offbeat Mara is barely noticeable to passersby. It is thanks to the combination of its discreet decor and unfenced boundaries that Offbeat Mara often welcomes a local lion pride whose members are heard before they are seen, roaring mightily as they pass by.
Managed by staff who live in the local Maasai villages, Offbeat Mara Camp is proud to support the local area with employment opportunities and by protecting the natural landscape of the reserve. By hiring local staff, Offbeat Mara promises expert guidance from those who know the reserve the best with an excellent and efficient team that is devoted to making guests feel at home. Offbeat Mara boasts a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where all are welcome. With comfortable lodgings and fantastic excursions, Offbeat Mara is popular with families and safari enthusiasts alike.
Offbeat Mara Camp is home to just seven safari tents, which are placed discreetly in various corners of the bush, hidden from the view of the outside world. While five of the seven tents are of a standard size to accommodate pairs and couples, two of the tents welcome families and host them in two separate bedrooms with a connecting dressing area. All seven tents have a private veranda with directors' chairs and sun loungers where guests can enjoy impressive views across the Mara North Conservancy where animals wander past in extreme proximity. Built with cream canvas, each tent is bright with earth-toned rugs and furniture that completes the traditional safari aesthetic. With handmade cedarwood beds and colourful throws, Offbeat Mara is comfortable, clean and cosy. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet and bucket shower.
Recently rebuilt, Offbeat Mara’s main communal area is raised off the ground with a wooden deck, solid walls and a canvas roof where guests can relax in the comfort of sofas and armchairs placed around a fireplace. Guests are also welcome to utilise the bar and shop where local crafts are sold and all profits are donated to the local community. At the centre is a large dining area that overlooks the river.
Internet access and laundry services are complimentary, as are all meals and drinks (excluding some premium alcoholic beverages). Babysitting and room services are also available on request for an additional fee.
Activities at offbeat Mara Camp
In its own private conservancy that stretches from the Aitong Hills and down to the north-western border of the Mara North Conservancy, guests of Offbeat Mara Camp enjoy various activities in the stunning open grassland plains, including game drives, safari walks and more. With the number of tourists limited to help protect and preserve the beautiful lands, guests of Offbeat Mara Camp enjoy the duration of their trip in their own exclusive space, far away from the noise of crowds and tourists.
The home of big cats, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, gazelles and many more, the Greater Masai Mara is the go-to place for any adventurer or animal lover. Guests staying at Offbeat Mara are welcome to enjoy game drives throughout the conservancy and beyond for the opportunity to spot these animals (and more!) in their natural habitat. Driven by an expert guide through the open plains, sightings of Africa’s Big 5 are a common occurrence for Offbeat Mara guests.
Game drives are complimentary and take place twice daily – once in the daytime and once in the night-time. Those staying at Offbeat Mara from mid-July to mid-October are also welcome to enjoy a drive into the Masai Mara National Reserve proper where they’re likely to witness the famous wildebeest and zebra migration where animals flock across the landscape in huge numbers, making for a glorious sight.
Guests of Offbeat Mara Camp can also enjoy guided walks throughout Mara North Conservancy, led by qualified guides who offer expert knowledge of Mara North’s varied plant, insect and bird life. Stretching over savannah and woodlands, a guided walk provides the opportunity for guests to see Kenya’s most vibrant and unique wildlife. Plus, a safari walk is a perfect chance to track big game as you trace their tracks and live a day in the life of a big cat!
Additional activities such as hot-air ballooning, line fishing and village visits are optional upgrades to help make your stay the most memorable and exciting for all members of your party. These activities can be booked at an additional cost.

This is such a well run camp within a beautiful conservancy which encompasses the Mara River. The beauty of being within a conservancy rather than a national park is that you are not restricted to tracks or roads.
