Activities at Governors' Camp
Within the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, Governors’ Camp has plenty of activities for guests to enjoy – not least, its unforgettable game drives. Commonly referred to as a safari of the senses, a Governors’ Camp game drive is the time for guests to spot Masai Mara’s plentiful year-round resident game. With three game drives on offer each day, guests can choose to depart from camp at sunrise, late morning or mid-afternoon for the opportunity to witness the sights and sounds of life within the great African expanse. All game drives are led by experienced and qualified guides. Equipped with first-hand, unparalleled knowledge of the reserve, Governors’ Camp guides will show guests around Masai Mara’s best locations for Big 5 spottings within an open-top, all-terrain, off-roading vehicle. Every game drive offers unrivalled game-viewing and photographic opportunities in one of the world’s most beautiful wildlife areas.
Governors’ Camp also offers hot-air balloon safaris (at an additional cost) over the Mara River, forests and open plains. Starting out on the adventure of a lifetime, guests leave camp just before dawn and depart in the balloon from a natural launch site near to base. A hot-air balloon safari is the ultimate way to spot a selection of Masai Mara’s most astounding animals and wildlife – all while enjoying the thrill of being suspended in a basket high above the ground. As the balloon lands, guests will toast their return to the ground with a champagne breakfast and more leisurely game viewing on the way back to camp.
Sunrise walking safaris are another great way to experience the raw beauty of the Masai Mara. Led by experienced guides, guests will be thrilled by the opportunity to get up close and personal with wildlife in their natural habitat. After a bright and early stroll around the reserve, guests will be delighted by a bush breakfast and a game drive back to camp, just in time for a delicious lunch.
All at Governors’ Camp are proud of their African heritage and guests are welcomed to take part in a camp-organized visit to the local villages. Governors’ Camp excursions include visits to local Maasai villages to connect with the residents and learn about the local culture, community and way of life.

Perfect Out of Africa Experience. Wonderful game drives, lovely dining on the lawn or under the tent. Tents were well decorated and cool nights supplemented with hot water bottle! Staff was 10 star.

The food was delicious, and as a vegetarian, I especially appreciated that Simon (who took care of our meals) prepared the daily menu with extra care.
